1986 – Graduated from Washington and Lee University

             Juris Doctor Degree from the School of Law

1986 – Admitted to the Virginia State Bar

1986 – Joined the Staunton law firm of 

            Lotz, Black & Menk

1987 – Became a partner in the Staunton law firm of

             Black, Menk, Noland & Gaines

1993 – Formed the Staunton law firm of Pysell & Gaines 

             with Paul E. Pysell

1994 – Became a part-time Assistant Commonwealth’s 

             Attorney for Augusta County

1994 – Became a part-time Assistant Commonwealth’s 

             Attorney for the City of Staunton 

1998 – Closed private law practice and became full-time 

             Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for 

             the City of Staunton

2005 to the present – Chief Deputy Commonwealth’s
